By Christine Lavelle

FORMER Bay City Roller Pat McGlynn is recovering at home after suffering from a heart attack.

The one time pop star told how he feared for his life when doctors informed him he needed urgent treatment.

The 52-year-old teen sensation said he had put a spell of chest tightness down to his heavy smoking, but was shocked to find out the seriousness of his condition.

Mr McGlynn was alone when he began to feel unwell, experiencing shortness of breath and pains in his chest.

Voice recognition will solve Bay City Rollers’ ongoing battle

By Christine Lavelle

A FOUNDING member of the Bay City Rollers says he will use voice recognition experts to help prove he is entitled to a share of a £65 million claim for royalty payments.

Nobby Clark was the original lead singer in the band but left in 1973 before they shot to stardom.

His replacement Les McKeown and current members Duncan Faure, Eric Faulkner, Stuart Wood and brothers Alan and Derek Longmuir – both of whom helped found the band – launched a legal bid in 2007.

They are demanding £65 million in unpaid royalties from record label Arista.

But that action does not include the three other former members – Clark, Pat McGlynn and Ian Mitchell – who say they are being frozen out and launched their own separate legal bid in the States. Continue reading

Roller refuses to pay £15,000 for “cowboy” refurbishment

ANGRY: McGlynn wants the stand-off to end

By Michael MacLeod

BAY City Rollers star Pat McGlynn is being taken to court over an unpaid £15,000 bill for a house refurbishment.

The guitarist refused to pay his local council after what he claims was “a cowboy job” refurbishing one of his homes in Edinburgh.

He compared the six-year stand off to his former band’s battle for millions of pounds in royalties, claiming the stress was affecting his health.

He hit out at the “terrible” standard of work carried out in 2004 to a three-bedroom home he rents out in the city’s Burdiehouse Crossway.

Council insiders said the 1970s pop sensation had signed an agreement for the building work to go ahead but failed to co-operate when they offered to survey the home after his complaints.

The former musician – now 50 years old – won a half-million-pound eatery in September 2007 during a gambling session.

But McGlynn became a target for crooks on the make and soon began receiving phone calls from Michael Willis.

Willis, 21, demanded £200,000 telling the former star “get the money, or else”.  He also turned up at McGlynn’s home in Edinburgh asking for cash.

The retired Roller was so disturbed by the threats that police moved him into a safe house while they investigated.

And Wednesday at Edinburgh Sheriff Court Willis was jailed for 12 months after he had earlier admitted attempted extortion.

tam-paton

By ALEXANDER LAWRIE

BAY CITY ROLLERS manager Tam Paton was snubbed by his former band as he was laid to rest yesterday.

The controversial music mogul passed away on April 8 after being found dead of a suspected heart attack at his home.

Hundreds of mourners packed into Mortonhall Crematorium in Edinburgh to pay their final respects to Paton – but his former charges were nowhere to be seen.

70’s heartthrobs Les McKeown, Derek Longmuir and Stuart ‘Woody’ Wood, who have been involved in protracted talks with Paton about Rollers’ royalties, all stayed away from the 45 minute service.
