FOOTBALLER Craig Thomson appeared in court today charged with lewd and libidinous behaviour towards girls between 12 and 16.

The Hearts defender appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court and made no plea nor declaration.

The 19-year-old faces three charges of lewd and libidinous behaviour under the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995.

He was released on bail to his address in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian.

Thomson was named man of the match for his club debut in the Europa League clash against Dinamo Zagreb in August 2009.

In September of the same year he was named SPL young player of the month.

THESE desperate music fans queued for hours in hail and pouring rain today (Fri) to get their lucky hands on the first T in the Park tickets – shortly before Scotland’s biggest music event announced it had SOLD OUT.

All briefs were gone within an hour and a half, making the Thursday night wrapped in blankets and huddled under umbrellas during freezing weather worthwhile for those lucky enough to get them.

But their spirits were raised when Ripping Records on South Bridge – which could easily have been named ‘Dripping’ Records because of the rain – opened half an hour early to start selling the coveted tickets to drenched fans.

With a line up boasting US rapper Eminem alongside British band Muse, around 200 fans didn’t want to risk missing out on the music festival at Balado this year.

Elderly lady found on beach lived just yards from promenade

By Cara Sulieman

AN ELDERLY lady who was found dead on a Scottish beach had only just moved in to her home 500 yards away, neighbours say.

Residents in the Musselburgh, East Lothian, sheltered accommodation complex where Christina Thomson lived said they suspected the 80-year-old had gone for a walk by the sea.

Her body was found on Tuesday morning at around 9am on the beach at the picturesque seaside town.

Lothian and Borders Police last night (Thursday) said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

A GOLFER has followed up his first hole-in-one after 35 years by sinking two in the space of a fortnight to earn his hat trick.

Jim Tait first hit a hole-in-one in 1974, and earlier this month he achieved the seemingly impossible by doing it again – this time on the seventh straight at Murrayfield Golf Course.

The 62-year-old said: “I couldn’t believe it when it sailed in. I was golfing with a friend who said ‘that was a very good shot’ while it was still flying through the air, then he trailed off.

“We were shocked and leapt up to shake hands. I never, ever thought I would get another one.”

Dennis the Menace gets a revamp

By Cara Sulieman

CHILDREN’S comic favourite Dennis the Menace has been given a 21st century makeover.

Athough he has kept hold of his trademark stripey jumper and black shorts, it was revealed yesterday that he could have undergone a far more radical change.

Designs put forward for the tearaway kid included a spray can-wielding hoodie and a spaced out scruff to make him more in-keeping with elements of today’s youth.

But the Manga style images were dismissed and creators decided to go for a more traditional Dennis look – just without the trademark catapult.

CHILDREN at a Scots primary school facing the chop are donating their own pocket money in a desperate bid to save it from the axe.

Pupils at Drumbrae Primary in Edinburgh bandied together to try and win over education chiefs who say that they do not have the resources to keep it open.

The children including Laura Thomson, nine, and Iain Jackson, seven, decided to donate their own cash in the hope it would help.

Their coins have been sent to the three councillors representing the area – Colin Keir, Robert Aldridge and Jenny Dawe – along with a letter saying what the cash is to be used for.
