A FIRE has ripped through a British Heart Foundation shop in the capital, just 500 yards from the Balmoral Bar where firefighter Ewan Williamson lost his life.

Exactly a week after his tragic death, firefighters were called out to 56 Dalry Road where smoke was coming out of the roof of the charity’s shop.

Three firefighters were injured whilst trying to put out the inferno and were taken to hospital.

But luckily they were later released from the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after being treated for a variety of injuries including smoke inhalation and bumps and bruises.

Blue meanies go green

EDINBURGH’S hated “blue meanies” are going green with the introduction of electric scooters.

Parking enforcers will be trying out the S4 scooter next week and if it is successful it will be rolled out across the service.

Made by a local company, Saltire Winds, the sleek scooter will allow wardens to get around quicker and reach places where parking is more difficult.

NSL provides the enforcers for the council, and is hoping that the vehicles will help them up their green credentials.

Prestigious hotel flooded by overflowing bath

A DOZY guest at one of Scotland’s most prestigious hotels left their bath running over – cutting power to the ENTIRE building.

Around 220 guests at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews were evacuated after the hotel lost power at 10pm on Tuesday night when the water flooded the electrical system.

Ironically the hotel is owned by millionaire PLUMBING firm Kohler Co which specialises in upmarket bathroom ware.

Fire-fighters were called to help pump water from the world famous building at one stage.
