RAF cargo plane collides with deer on runway

AN RAF cargo plane hit a pair of deer as it came into land at RAF Kinloss.

Parts of the propeller were smashed off as the SAAB-Scania aircraft moved along the air base runway at nearly 60mph.

Air accident investigators revealed how the 33 year-old pilot tried to brake hard but failed to avoid the wild animals.

Deer facts in headlights as campaign issues road accident red alert

SCOTS drivers are involved in a startling 10,000 accidents a year – with deer.

The problem is so bad the Deer Commission for Scotland has just issued a red alert ahead of the clocks going back next week.

They say this is the most dangerous time for motorists and deer –and have even published a list of black spots to watch out for.To hire our photographers - call 0131 561 2233

Special electronic signs have been erected alongside roads including the A82 Glasgow – Inverness route, A9 taking in Inverness and Perth, the A835 Inverness to Ullapool road and A87 starting at Invergarry.

The fortnight long campaign will carry the message: “High risk of deer on the road” after at least three people were killed in deer related accidents in the previous 12 months. Continue reading

‘Bin Laden’ deer shot after becoming aggressive

AN ELDERLY deer dubbed “Bin Laden” by locals has been shot dead after turning on its adopted owner.

The ageing stag was famous for begging visitors for chocolate at The Tea Hut café in Corran, Ross-shire, and had even been featured on BBC’s The One Show.

However the 20-year-old stag became frustrated after becoming too old to rut, and also because of a wound on his side.

He then turned on adopted owner Sheena Nash, who owns The Tea Hut café, leaving the 70-year-old needing five stitches in her leg.

And after speaking with owner of the estate the stag lived on, it was decided that he be put down. Continue reading

Dopey deer gets stuck in railings

A DOPEY deer got stuck in railings on a quiet residential street in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The fire brigade were called to Torbain in Kirkcaldy after a deer was found with its head stuck in a fence.

A vet had to be called out to check over the terrified animal before the firemen could cut it loose.

It was then taken to the vet’s surgery for treatment.
