Man impales knee on railings

SATURDAY night ended badly for a man who impaled his knee on a railing and had to be freed by firefighters.

It is thought the 40-year-old was trying to get over the fence into Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh when he slipped, impaling his knee on a spike.

The ambulance service were called out at 1.25am on Sunday to tend to the man but he had to be cut free from the bars before being taken to the city’s Royal Infirmary.

A fire engine arrived at 1.39am and used their cutting gear to free the hapless man from the railings.
