Dealer’s fruity excuse for chucking drugs over prison wall

A DOZY drug dealer was caught throwing heroin and mobile phones over a prison wall for inmates – after lobbing a fresh orange over too “as an afterthought.”

Unfortunately for David Hyland, 25, the fruit almost hit a prison guard who in turn alerted police who raced to the scene.

Hyland tried to escape on a bicycle, only to find himself cornered in a nearby street.

In a bid to get away, he peddled the bike directly at a female police officer before leaping off and launching it at her.

And although the bike slammed into her body, desperate Hyland was captured by other officers.

Hyland was jailed for two years today (Tuesday) at Edinburgh Sheriff Court for supplying the class-A drug and assaulting the WPC.

Shoppers ugly fruit and wonky veg

SCOTS shoppers could soon be quids in when they see a return of wonky vegetables to supermarket shelves tomorrow.

An EU ban on the sale of misshapen fruit and veg will be lifted tomorrow (Wed), with some stores already vowing to slash costs with bargain bags of barmy veg.

Sainsbury’s is hailing Wednesday as the day the “wonky veg war” was won.

And Scottish farmers are hoping that they can share the spoils with shoppers too.

Curly carrots and cucumbers will be back on the shelves in a move promising to see some produce prices cut by up to 40 per-cent.

And the new rules will see less food thrown away before it’s sold, according to Aberdeen Agricultural College food marketing expert David Lamb.

IT’S not just a salad…it’s a salad designed by a group of schoolchildren from Bo’ness that will be hitting the shelves of Marks and Spencers across the country.

Four pupils from Bo’ness Academy put their chefs hats on and came up with the winning taste sensation – the Fruity Fiesta salad.

The healthy treat was cooked up during a school project working with Caledonian Produce, one of Marks and Spencer’s main suppliers.

The biggest employer in the Bo’ness area, the school has worked with them in the past on smaller projects.
