Murray granddad serves up lifeline for Stirling Albion

TENNIS ace Andy Murray wants to save his granddad’s old football team from extinction.

Ahead of his opening Wimbledon match today (Tuesday) the hotly-tipped Scot pledged his support to a supporter-led takeover of Stirling Albion.

Despite being Hibernian fans, Andy and his older brother Jamie signed up to the “Buy Stirling Albion” campaign to save the team from obscurity.

Their grandfather Roy Erskine played for the Binos in the 1950s and 60s.

But now 134 years of footballing history hangs in the balance unless someone stumps up £800,000. The club has been for sale for three years without anyone showing any interest.

Arthur Montford fearful for future of Scottish game

SCOTTISH football legend Arthur Montford admits he fears for the future of our national game – claiming too much live football on TV “is slowly killing it”.

Montford, 79 – who made his name as the voice of Scotsport for over 30 years – has slammed television bosses for showing excessive live matches.

Famed for his check-jackets, the lifelong Morton fan claims supporters are now staying at home in droves and watching their footie on the box.

The veteran presenter has been so incensed about the recent amount of live matches he put pen to paper and sent a stinging letter to a newspaper to outline his concerns.
