Woman, 49, dies after being hit by skip lorry at weekend

A WOMAN struck by a skip lorry in Edinburgh at the weekend has died in hospital after succumbing to head injuries.

Janat Bi, 49, from the city’s Meadowbank, was struck by the lorry on Wolseley Place, near busy London Road, on Friday.

She was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to be treated for head injuries before being transferred to the Western General Hospital, but died from her injuries early this morning (Monday).

A police spokesperson said: “Lothian and Borders Police can confirm that a 49-year-old woman who was struck by a skip lorry in Edinburgh has died.

“The road was closed for approximately two hours while investigations were carried out at the scene.

“Police continue to appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time, who saw what happened, to contact them immediately.

“Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131.”

Police said no one had been charged in relation to the accident.

Motorbike crash lands driver in hospital with head injuries

A MAN was taken to hospital with suspected head injuries after his motor bike struck a van in heavy rain.

The 30-year-old motorcyclist collided with the van shortly before 4pm today in the Leith area of Edinburgh and was taken by ambulance to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Links Gardens where the accident happened remained closed while police officers attended the scene, where a helmet could be seen lying on the road next to the dented van.

The extent of the man’s injuries was not yet known, but the accident left what appeared to be the impression of his body crushed into the side of the white coloured van. Continue reading
