Murder Accused Appears In Court Over Mirza Death

A 48-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of Edinburgh man Mohammad Mirza.

Mr Mirza, 47, died following an incident at his Stenhouse Gardens North flat in the city on Wednesday.

Today (Fri) at Edinburgh Sheriff Court Mustafa Elsherski appeared in private on petition.

Elsherski, also from Edinburgh, made no plea or declaration to charges of murder and assault to injury.

He was committed for further examination and remanded following a brief appearance before Sheriff John Horsburgh.

Man Killed In Stab Attack Named As Mohammed Mirza

A 47-year-old man who was allegedly stabbed to death in Edinburgh on Wednesday night has been named as Mohammed Mirza.

The dad-of-two died despite being treated at the scene by paramedics shortly after 10pm following the disturbance at Stenhouse Gardens North.

His wife Farzana was said by neighbours to have been to away in England at the time and speeded back by police to the city to be with her devastated family.

Mr Mirza was well known in the area, having worked as a taxi driver and vehicle recovery man in recent years.

Police were still at the scene carrying out door to door inquiries.

Man Arrested Over Late Night Edinburgh Stabbing Horror

DETECTIVES probing the death of a man at an Edinburgh flat had been investigating a series of vandalism attacks on a car outside the same address before the tragedy, it was revealed today (Mon).

Lothian and Borders Police were called previously to probe a spate of tyres being slashed and bodywork being daubed with spray paint and were called again at the flat in Stenhouse Gardens North as recently as Monday.

Today they were instead probing the death of a 47-year-old man – who has not been named – after being called to the scene shortly before 10pm on Wednesday night after reports he had been stabbed.

It was not know if the incidents were related.

Forensic teams, a police command unit and uniformed officers conducted door to door inquiries and hunted for clues as patrol cars blocked off the adjacent streets.

But they confirmed that a 48-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident and was expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow (Fri). Continue reading
