Motorcyclist dies at scene of crash in Fife

A MOTORCYCLIST died following emergency CPR from ambulance staff after his bike collided with a car in Fife.

The accident happened at around 5.15pm yesterday (Sat) on the B942 Colinsburgh to Pittenweem road.

Two ambulance crews attended, and were supported by a trauma team from Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital.

Paramedics tried desperately to revive the man, but he was declared deceased at the scene. Continue reading

Undiscovered pensioner’s secret fortune goes to cousin

THE cousin of an Edinburgh pensioner who lay dead in her flat for five years before being discovered by police has inherited her £110,000 fortune.

Isabella Purves’ decomposed body was found at her Canonmills home in July last year, after a neighbour noticed water dripping from the flat.

The former nurse’s cousin Eleanor Dick, from Clydebank, has now received £108,392 – £90,000 from the sale of her home and £18,000 from bank accounts.

A family friend said Ms Dick was horrified when she heard about the grim discovery and that the whole family has been “deeply upset”. Continue reading

Police name man found dead on Arthur’s Seat

POLICE have identified a man whose body was found on Arthur’s Seat at the weekend.

Andrew Algeo, 45, from the Restalrig area of Edinburgh was found at around 10pm on Sunday by a member of the public.

It took police until 2.30pm the next day to retrieve his body due to its location.

Brave dad of tragic Riggi children in emotional tribute

HEARTBROKEN Pasquale Riggi broke his silence today on the “painful” events of the past week which led to the deaths of his three children and the arrest of his estranged wife Theresa.

Eight year old twins Augustino and Gianluca, and their five-year-old sister Cecilia were found dead at a flat in Edinburgh’s Slateford Road last Wednesday, 4 August.

Speaking from a hotel in Aberdeen today, Mr Riggi said: “You are paralysed with grief – you are not sure what to do next.

“It is bad enough that you have lost three beautiful children, but certainly the tragedy around their deaths makes it much more painful.

19-year-old dead after being hit by two cars on M8 carriageway

A YOUNG woman was killed after being struck by two cars on the M8, as she walked along the carriageway near the Edinburgh bypass.

The 19-year-old pedestrian was heading east-bound on the carriageway close to Hermiston Gait retail park at around 11pm on Tuesday.

She was hit by a vehicle traveling east-bound, the force of which propelled her onto the other side of the road and into the path of a second car.

The motorway was closed overnight by police between junctions one and two and only reopened at 6am the following morning. Continue reading

Family and colleagues pay tribute to “charismatic” cyclist killed in accident

SHOCKED colleagues of a cyclist who was killed in a tragic road accident at the weekend paid tribute to a “charismatic” and “popular” man today.

Dr Kostas Tourlas died in the collision with a Fiat Ulysse near Kirkliston Sports Centre on Saturday.

Workmates of the 37-year-old spoke of their “shock and disbelief” at his death.

Dr Tourlas had worked at London-based software consultancy firm Adelard since 2003 and moved to the capital about a year ago.

Breakthrough as Suzanne Pilley hunt becomes a murder probe

DETECTIVES probing the disappearance of Edinburgh bookkeeper Suzanne Pilley fear she is dead.

Senior officers broke the news to her devastated parents Robert and Sylvia that the hunt for their daughter had been upgraded to a murder inquiry before going public about the switch today (Wednesday).

But they said bravely: “Until we hear otherwise, we will always hope for some positive news.”

The move came after officers were handed CCTV footage which they say shows Suzanne DID arrive outside her work.

But what happened thereafter remains a mystery.
