Chip shop fined after dead mouse found

CLIFTON_TAKEAWAY_MOUSE_DPPAA CHIP shop owner fined £1,200 after health inspectors found a dead mouse in his takeaway last night blamed Edinburgh’s hated tram works.

Furious Carlo Corolla, 41, claims the digs have disturbed so many colonies of vermin across the city – that his Clifton Fish and Chicken Bar is among scores of businesses hit by the unwelcome visitors.

He said: “It’s the tram works, it forces all the rodents up to the shops here.”

Health inspectors who carried out a spot check on his premises on Clifton Terrace said they found  not just dead vermin, but droppings and contaminated food.

Staff want to adopt pooch after he was dumped in pub toilet

A TERRIFIED dog has been taken into care after being dumped by its owner – in a pub toilet.

Dingo the Border collie was found by staff at the Standing Order in Edinburgh after being abandoned – at 10am in the morning.

Pub staff said the dog was very nervous and very lean – so they fed him a whole plate of black pudding.

Now staff at the pub are considering adopting Dingo, and reckon he could get used to black pudding breakfasts.

Charlene Walshe, manager of the Standing Order: “The gentleman came in at about 10.45am in the morning and headed straight down to the toilets.

Major clean-up after toppled lorry leads to chemical spillage on M9

A MAJOR clean-up operation had to be mounted after an articulated lorry toppled onto its side, covering a major motorway route with chemicals.

More than two dozen officers from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue donned chemical protection suits to clean up the spill on the M9 spur near to the Forth Road Bridge.

The incident occurred around 12:30am yesterday morning, and led to the busy route being closed throughout the night, until 5.30am.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire confirmed that 23 firefighters and three senior officers handle the large-scale spill.

Queen legends wow fans with performance at musical

SCOTLAND rolled out the red carpet to welcome legendary rock stars Brian May and Roger Taylor for the opening night of the hit musical We Will Rock You.

The Queen legends wowed fans at the Edinburgh Playhouse with a live appearance at the show’s finale, which saw the audience clap and sing along throughout the whole show.

And the crowd went wild when May and Taylor belted out the band’s classic hit Bohemian Rhapsody.

We Will Rock You, which has received rave reviews during its run at London’s West End, is written by Ben Elton, with the show’s music being supervised by Taylor and May.

May, 62, said he was delighted to be back in Scotland on Monday, if only for one night. Continue reading

Racing legend Sir Jackie’s ancestry on display at National Archives

THE ancestry of one of Scotland’s most treasured sporting heroes is to be displayed at the National Archives as part of the Famous Scots series.

The family history of F1 racing champion Sir Jackie Stewart – who won three world championships – is to be part of the finale for the popular exhibition in Edinburgh.

Experts at the ScotlandsPeople Centre at New Register House have delved into Sir Jackie’s past to allow visitors to trace the sportsman’s family’s humble roots as Renfrewshire farmers.

The 70-year-old sporting legend is the final Famous Scot in the series, with previous exhibitions displaying the ancestry of rock star Shirley Manson, comedian Billy Connolly, pioneering scientist Sir James Black, and award-winning actors Brian Cox and Tilda Swinton.

George MacKenzie, keeper of the records at the National Archives of Scotland said: “We’re delighted and honoured that Sir Jackie Stewart has agreed to be featured as the sixth and final Famous Scot. Continue reading

Mum hits out at local authority

THE mum of a young boy who was assaulted by a sex offender after a council granted the pervert a licence to be an ice cream man has hit out at the local authority.GEORGE_WARD_DPPA

George Ward, 33, attacked the 12-year-old boy after taking up an ice cream run in Livingston.

The terrified lad was grabbed by his arm and pulled towards Ward’s van as he sold treats to youngsters in the West Lothian town.

Ward – who has previous convictions for public indecency and stalking – was a registered sex offender with a sex ASBO imposed on him at the time of the offence.

West Lothian Council insist that he conned them into granting him a street traders licence by lying about his name and age.

But the boy’s mum blasted the council for not checking on Ward’s real identity and revealed her relief that nothing worse had happened while he had been serving local kids.
